Sensory Engagement Lab Lecture: Embodying Data: Environmental sensors and kinetic sculpture as a working method.
Tuesday, October 16th | 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm | Free
Cy Keener is an interdisciplinary artist focused on creating field recordings of natural phenomena and experiential representations of these recordings. Recent projects have measured rainfall on a per drop basis, recorded moments of turbulence in a river of wind with an array of 60 sensors, and deployed ocean drifters to report wave and sky conditions in the North Pacific. His gallery representations are often at the installation scale – coaxing strings of numbers into immersive light, space and sound. Cy is an Assistant Professor of Sculpture and Emerging Technology at the University of Maryland’s Department of Art. RSVP HERE

The Artist’s Contract
November 4 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm | $20
Learn about what copyright protects and secures in the visual arts. Empower yourself by exploring infringement, the difference between fair use and public domain, other artist’s rights, contract provisions in typical artist’s agreements, and negotiating strategies. Lawyer John Wierzbicki will provide practical examples and make it applicable to artists regardless of discipline or medium, including visual, performance, and writers.
John Wierzbicki is a California lawyer based in Rochester, NY and San Francisco, CA. For nearly a decade, he led the author contract and relationship team at Thomson Reuters’ legal publishing division. He conducts workshops for artists on artist’s rights, artistic contracts, and negotiating, preferring that to training lawyers. He likes to point out that the first contract in human history is the rainbow. RSVP HERE
